Dining near Rembrandtplein and the Reguliersdwarsstraat

Dining in the heart of Amsterdam, with the canals, Rembrandtplein and the flower market within walking distance. A guide to the neighbourhood and where to eat something special.

Few places in Amsterdam are as central and as lively as the area around Rembrandtplein. Between the canals, the Muntplein and the flower market you will find the Reguliersdwarsstraat, an atmospheric street within walking distance of almost everything the city centre has to offer.

Dining right in the centre, with the canals and Rembrandtplein a short walk away.

The neighbourhood in brief

Rembrandtplein is one of Amsterdam's best-known squares, named after the painter whose statue stands in the middle. All around it, terraces buzz with life. Right next to it runs the Reguliersdwarsstraat, a little quieter and with its own characterful atmosphere. You are in the middle of the canal belt, with iconic Amsterdam within reach on every side.

Sights within walking distance

What makes the area so pleasant is that you do everything on foot:

  • The floating flower market on the Singel, unique in the world, is just around the corner.
  • The Muntplein with the historic Munttoren marks the edge of the old centre.
  • The Amstel river, with the famous Magere Brug nearby, is quickly reached.
  • The Kalverstraat, the city's best-known shopping street, begins close by.

Why dine here

Central, easy to reach and full of choice: the area lends itself to anything, from a terrace to a full dinner. Precisely because there is so much to do, it is good to know an address where the food is genuinely special, and not just a pit stop amid the bustle.

Sichuan Food on the Reguliersdwarsstraat

At Reguliersdwarsstraat 35 you will find Sichuan Food. We have been known for decades for our authentic Chinese cuisine at fine-dining level, and above all for our specialty: the Peking duck in three courses, with a whole duck carved at your table. Sichuan Food was once the first Chinese restaurant in the Netherlands to earn a Michelin star. You dine with us in a warm, understated setting, just away from the bustle of the square.

For which occasion?

The area and the restaurant suit all kinds of evenings: romantic dining for two, a business dinner to host clients, or group dining to share the duck together.
